VILLA CONTARINI GUIZZETTI DELLA ROVERE
Treviso, Italy
2024 - Ongoing

The villa estate in Le Grazie, Treviso, was originally developed in the early 18th century by a branch of the Contarini family and formed part of the Venetian Republic’s agricultural and territorial system.
Conceived as a productive and residential ensemble, the complex integrated the noble villa with barchesse, scuderie, gardens, and cultivated land. After a full restoration conducted from 1999, it became a hotel, later closed due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The current project reinterprets the villa as a contemporary hotel, restoring its historic hierarchy while introducing new spaces for hospitality, wellness and social life.

The fomar Villa and its Garden before the intervention

The Masterplan after the intervention
While the original villa and scuderie were preserved, selective additions and transformations were introduced to extend the programme and reconnect architecture with landscape. New volumes, including the spa with suits and the Orangerie, are positioned to reinforce the estate’s spatial structure and to frame views towards gardens, water and surrounding farmland.
Historic masonry and plaster surfaces remain legible throughout the complex and the new buildings are complemented by lighter contemporary materials, establishing a dialogue between permanence and adaptation.

The landscape design, developed alongside the architectural intervention, weaves together historic axes, garden rooms, and new outdoor spaces, allowing the estate to be perceived as a continuous garden landscape rather than a collection of isolated buildings. Through this layered approach, the project balances conservation and transformation, translating noble life and rural memory into a calm, contemporary environment for hospitality.

The interior design draws inspiration from the villa's aristocratic history and agricultural heritage, translating historical materials and colors into a contemporary language. Velvet and metallic accents echo the original building's textures, while restrained tones derived from stucco ornamentation, tiled roofs, glass, cultivated fields, and seasonal light and shadow create a dialogue between refinement and rustic memory.
