PRIVATE HOUSE CENDON
Treviso, Italy
2025 - Ongoing

Along the banks of the Sile river, one of the world's longest spring-fed rivers, known as “Fontanassi” in the Treviso dialect, lies the picturesque traditional riverside village of Cendon. This area feels like a hidden paradise on the Veneto plain. Our project Casa Cendon is nestled within the Parco Naturale Regionale del Fiume Sile, immersed in pristine and lush natural surroundings.
Hidden within the lush greenery of this land, a compact and elegant villa nestles among the trees. The new structure is designed to blend seamlessly into the ecological context of the natural park. The building was thoughtfully designed with low maintenance requirements and minimal environmental impact, ensuring its stability and longevity over time.

We decided to employ natural materials in a contemporary yet restrained manner; we decided to respond to the site with an attitude of respect and attunement. Brown zinc-titanium panels are set against carbonized Italian larch cladding (known as the Yakisugi, a traditional Japanese wood-preservation technique), creating both contrast and balance while forming a unified, composed façade expression. The dialogue between metal and carbonized timber not only establishes visual depth and material richness, but also responds effectively to the high humidity typical of riverside woodland dwellings, significantly slowing the aging and deterioration of materials over time.
At the same time, we abandoned the common practice of exposed rainwater downpipes, reducing the maintenance burden caused by fallen leaves and debris. In their place, a pitched roof allows for natural drainage, while a gravel perimeter facilitates infiltration and runoff, creating a more seamless and organic transition between architecture and landscape.

Inside, the mood board is drawn directly from the surrounding woodland, immersing the inhabitants in the quiet atmosphere of the forest. The carbonized larch used on the façade continues into the interior, complemented by deep green ripple primed wood. All timber elements are solid wood, ensuring healthy indoor air quality and a natural living environment. Together, these materials shape a soft, composed, and layered spatial atmosphere, feeling both expansive and serene.
